What to Expect at Your First Reiki Session: A Beginner’s Guide

If you’re curious about Reiki but feeling unsure about what happens during a session, you’re not alone! Many people come to Reiki as beginners, wondering what it involves and how it feels.

Here’s a gentle guide to help you feel prepared and relaxed before your first session.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing that promotes relaxation, balance, and wellbeing. It’s a safe, non-invasive practice where the practitioner channels energy to support your body’s natural healing processes.

Before Your Session

You don’t need to prepare anything special! Wear comfortable clothing and arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in. If you have any specific concerns or intentions (like help sleeping, emotional balance, or stress relief), feel free to share them with your practitioner.

During the Session

You’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table (or sit in a chair, if you prefer). Your practitioner will gently place their hands on or just above specific areas of your body, following a sequence that helps balance your energy.

You might feel:

  • A gentle warmth or tingling

  • Deep relaxation

  • Emotional release

  • Or simply a lovely sense of calm

Everyone’s experience is unique — and that’s perfectly okay.

After the Session

Take it easy and drink some water afterwards. You might feel very peaceful, sleepy, or even energized. Many people find that the benefits continue to unfold over the next few days.
